Please note that the number of applicants is limited. It is a first come, first served policy. We kindly encourage applicants to submit their documents and payment as early as possible, once applications are open.
The Fellowship of the European Board of Surgery in HPB Surgery) is obtained on passing Part I (Eligibility) and Part II (Examination) of the European Board of Surgery Qualification examination.
To apply to the EBSQ examination in HPB surgery, a candidate must fulfil the following requirements for eligibility:

2. The applicant must have a minimum of 2 years of training in HPB Surgery after board certification. The training can be obtained in separate parts as long as these are contained within a 4 year period.
3. The candidate must have produced at least one peer reviewed paper as a first or second or senior author in the field of HPB Surgery.
4. The candidate must have a total of 20 credit points (CPs), as per the Credit Points document.
As support to their application, the applicant should produce the following documents:
The application will be considered by a sub-committee of the Division. The sub-committee has three members. One of them is the Divisions secretary. The other two are named by the UEMS Division of HPB surgery.
The applicant will be informed of the acceptance or rejection of his/her application in due time.
An appeal of the decision is possible and will result in reevaluation of the eligibility application by the divisions plenary conference.
If the applicant is successful in the eligibility assessment, they will be invited to pay the examination fee (600 euros) to finalise their registration to the EBSQ examination.

The examination takes place once a year. Each candidate is examined individually.
The examination board counts 8 members: 7 members appointed by the Division, of which one appointed as chairman and one as secretary, and one appointed by the Board of EHPBA.
They will act as four 2-person examination teams (1. General anatomy, physiology, medical aspects 2. Liver 3. Pancreas 4.Topic presentation).
Examination format: The exam is performed according to standards of the section of surgery.
Successful candidates are awarded the title of Fellow of the European Board of Surgery in HPB surgery (F.E.B.S./HPBSurg.) and are provided with the relevant certificate.
The examination can be repeated up to 2 times in case of failure.
The global fee for the EBSQ diploma in HPB surgery is of 850 euros, divided as follows:
– Eligibility fee of 250 euros, non refundable if the candidate is not eligible), and
– Examination fee of 600 euros.
The eligibility fee is to be paid when the candidate register for the certification.
The examination fee is to be paid two months prior to the examination with 50% refundable if the examination is cancelled up one month before the examination.
If the examination is cancelled less than one month prior to the examination, all the fee should be forfeited.
