The UEMS is working toward the development of new, harmonised models for the training of the next generation of medical specialists and of high standards of clinical practice. The final aim was, is and will be improving care for patients throughout Europe.

To that purpose, besides the accreditation of specialists through EBSQ Examinations, the UEMS Section of Surgery has also among its activities the accreditation of Surgical Training Centres and Skills centres for specialist surgeons.

This is carried out through the evaluation of expert committees after analysis of the documentation and subsequent visits and interviews at the centres. It is intended to create certified centres of excellence at European level, which would attract surgical trainees from all over Europe.
