Supporting Continuing Medical Education
(EACCME)

European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME)
Since its foundation more than 60 years ago, the UEMS is convinced that the quality of care is directly linked to the quality of training of the healthcare professionals.
The purpose of the EACCME® was to provide accreditation of international CME in Europe and to facilitate the recognition of credits between the various countries in Europe. In order to reach this goal, the UEMS-EACCME® signed agreements of cooperation with countries in Europe, and also outside of Europe.
It is the most important project of the UEMS in relation to continuing medical education, and the evaluation of face-to-face and distance learning projects.
In order to support this recognition process the UEMS-EACCME® introduced a common “CME currency”: the European CME Credit (ECMEC®).
EACCME reviews and accredits hundreds of applications annually from different countries. The review is based on solid criteria by UEMS members, scientific societies, professional organisations, and universities. EACCME European credits (ECMEC) are recognised in 21 European countries.
The UEMS Section of Surgery participates in these reviews in the surgery fields of its Divisions, Working groups and Multidisciplinary Joint Committee.
The accreditation can be granted for:
- live educational events like congresses, workshops, on-hand sessions, webinars
- e-learning platforms like mobile apps, e-libraries
The UEMS EACCME has a dedicated website which lists all accredited events and where applications for accreditation can be submitted.
