Common associated soft tissue lesions are addressed and medical treatment options are outlined.

Management strategies for definitive fracture fixation are described. Having attended this webinar, participants will be able to recognize causes of early and late death in severe pelvic trauma. Surgery Webinar #10 Recurrent rectal cancer: diagnosis and principles of treatment – now on YouTube!

Surgery Thursday Webinar #10 Recurrent rectal cancer: diagnosis and principles of treatment – now on YouTube!

Surgery Thursday Webinar organised in collaboration between UEMS Section of Surgery and the Berufsverband Österreichischer Chirurgen.

Recurrent rectal cancer: diagnosis and principles of treatment by the UEMS Division of Surgical Oncology.

Locally recurrent rectal cancer (LRRC) is a complex disease that requires a multidisciplinary approach. Treatment and prognosis depend on the site and loco-regional spreading of recurrence, the biological characteristics of the primary tumor, the method of treatment of the primary tumor, and the condition and status of the patient. Radical surgical treatment (R0 resection) remains the most important method to achieve long-term survival and improve symptom control. Surgeons must develop an individualized and detailed preoperative plan based on a clear understanding of the pelvic anatomy, take a multidisciplinary approach for achieving monoblock surgical resection with clear margins.

Speaker: Ibrahim Edhemovic, MD, PhD, FEBS (hon.), FSSO Institute of Oncology • Ljubljana

Moderator: Dr Sebastian Roka, Secretary UEMS Section of Surgery Head of Visceral and Vascular Surgery Department at Hanusch-Krankenhaus Hospital • Vienna

Surgery Thursday Webinar #8 – Living Kidney Donation

Surgery Thursday Webinar #8 – Living Kidney Donation

Surgery Thursday Webinar organised in collaboration between UEMS Section of Surgery and the Berufsverband Österreichischer Chirurgen

Living kidney donation is a highly specialised field in transplant surgery and involves probably the most unique operation surgeons can perform: removing a vital organ in a perfectly healthy individual that does not need this operation. In this webinar I will try to show the uniqueness in all its different forms, and the enormous benefits a kidney transplantation from a living donor brings to patients with end-stage kidney failure (compared to a kidney from a deceased donor), and the need for more equity of access in Europe for all patients in need of a kidney transplantation.

Speaker: Frank JMF Dor, MD PhD FEBS(Hon) FRCS – Imperial College Healthcare, London
