Trauma surgery competency requires the ability to demonstrate a solid understanding of the basic science, applied physiology and pathology of the injured patient, to be proficient in prehospital and emergency room management, management of injuries of the brain, trunk, musculoskeletal system and soft tissues, as well as intensive care and rehabilitation in patients of all age.
The UEMS Division of Trauma Surgery has defined knowledge and competencies relevant to trauma surgery which are listed in the curriculum. For the part 1 examination, a broad knowledge of all trauma relevant topics is required
The curriculum for the module “Polytrauma Management and Musculoskeletal Trauma Surgery” is slightly different from the curriculum for the part 1 examination. As the part 2 examination specifically focuses on polytrauma and musculoskeletal trauma, a broad experience in musculoskeletal trauma surgery is required
