He completed his Medical Degree at the Semmelweis University and completed his internal medicine training, nephrology and transplant medicine and immunology in the United States at the University of Illinois in Chicago, the University of Vermont and at the Oregon Health and Science University respectively.
He was the co-founder and subsequently the deputy director of the Cyprus Transplant Center at the Nicosia General Hospital in Cyprus. He also served as Consultant Transplant Nephrologist and Deputy Director at the Paraskevaidion Transplant Center and director of nephrology at the American Medical Center in Nicosia.
He is currently an Associate Professor of Medicine, Nephrology and Transplant Medicine at the University of Vermont Medical Center and the Robert Larner MD College of Medicine.
He is the Medical Director of Kidney and Pancreas transplant programs.
His research interests include innovative methods for measurement of renal reserve and glomerular filtration rate in living kidney donors prior and after donation and utilization of cell free donor specific DNA in diagnosis of BK viremia and acute rejection.
Speranta Iacob (MD, PhD), graduated at the “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Bucharest, Romania, earned her MD degree in 2001, followed by a Gastroenterology Residency until 2007 and was acknowledged as senior physician in Gastroenterology and Hepatology in 2013 in Fundeni Clinical Institute.
Speranta Iacob (MD, PhD), graduated at the “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Bucharest, Romania, earned her MD degree in 2001, followed by a Gastroenterology Residency until 2007 and was acknowledged as senior physician in Gastroenterology and Hepatology in 2013 in Fundeni Clinical Institute. The PhD in Surgery under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Irinel Popescu, focusing on strategies to prevent HCV recurrence after liver transplantation was completed in 2010. Since 2012, dr Iacob has served as the National Representative in the European Board for Transplant Medicine (EBTM) and later assumed the position of Elected Senior Secretary of EBTM from 2019 to 2023. Now, Dr Iacob is the elected VicePresident of the EBTM for 4 years, as well as voted in as a member of the ESOT (European Society for Organ Transplantation) Council. Dr Iacob international experience includes a DAAD Scholarship for liver transplantation specialization at the University Hospital Essen, Germany (2005), and a one year basic research stagium in liver transplantation at the same University (2009) under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Susanne Beckebaum. In addition to earning the European Diploma in Transplant Medicine (2011), Speranta Iacob has also participated in over 60 specialized courses in the field of Hepatology. In the University, she holds the position of Assistant Professor in Gastroenterology, further contributing to the field through education and research. She is a leading voice in Transplant Medicine, focusing on liver transplantation, cholestatic liver diseases, hepatocellular carcinoma, personalized medicine, and translational medicine.

Anna Mrzljak is a Consultant Gastroenterologist/Hepatologist, a head of Liver Transplant Center Zagreb, Croatia, and an associate professor at the School of Medicine, University of Zagreb. She trained in Medicine at the University of Zagreb (2001), where she obtained her PhD in Transplantation medicine (2010), for which she received the UNESCO Award – For Women in Science. She worked as a research fellow at the Institute for Liver Studies at King’s College Hospital, London (2015). She is a Fellow of the European Board of Transplant Medicine and the European Board of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. She was an investigator/PI on several hepatology/liver transplant-related projects. She participated in 20 (inter)national projects related to viral hepatitis, MASDL and liver transplantation. She was involved in creating national consensus documents on viral hepatitis, MASLD and portal hypertension. She authored >100 publications in peer-reviewed journals. She received the Croatian Medical Chamber Award 2019 for her scientific contribution to Medicine. She is active in national and international societies (EASL, ILTS, ESOT, UEG). Currently, she serves as a senior secretary of the European Board of Transplant Medicine (UEMS), a member of the Croatian Solid Organ Transplantation Committee, and a reviewer for several journals.

Mrs. Smaragdi Marinaki holds a degree in Medicine from the NKUA and is specialised in Nephrology. In 2002 she received a scholarship from the Hellenic Society of Nephrology to complete her post-training program in Germany (12/2002-12/2004), at the Universitaets- klinikum Mannheim, V. Medizinische Klinik: Nephrologie/ Rheumatologie/ Endrokrinologie under the direction of the Professor of Nephrology FJ van der Woude. In this department she served as a specialist of Nephrology, while she completed her doctoral thesis at the University of Heidelberg.
From 2006 to 2012 she served as a Junior Attending Physician and from 2012 to 2019 as a Senior Attending Physician at the Clinic of Nephrology and Kidney Transplantation of General Hospital of Athens “Laiko”. In 09/2022 she was elected Director of the abovementioned Department.
From 19/3/2019 she was named Assistant Professor of Nephrology and since October 2022 Associate Professor of Nephrology and Kidney Transplantation at the NKUA Medical School of Athens.
From 2006 onwards, she has been a faculty member at the School of Medicine, NKUA. She has also been teaching Physiology courses at the Schools of Pharmacy, Dentistry and Nursing of NKUA.
Furthermore, she teaches in 13 different post-graduate programs. She is the supervisor of a total of 12 MsC diplomas and theses and 6 PhD theses. She is also the coordinator of the pregraduate elective course “Tissue, Cells and Organ Tranplantation”.
Regarding her research activitiy, 85 of a total of 100 papers can be found on the SCI database (as of July 2023), with a Hirsch-index of 14 (Scopus).
Her scientific, educational and organizing activity is domestically and internationally acknowledged : she participates in committees of the Hellenic Transplant Organization and of the European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines and Health Care (EDQM). Finally, she has also participated in the writing of a total of 8 Greek and 4 english language academic textbooks.
