This year, the face-to-face exam had to be cancelled due to uncertain COVID-19 situation in Europe. The examination takes place fully online.

The COVID-19 pandemic still impacts all fields of medicine, including organ transplantation. Rapid adaptation by the transplant community was needed in order to continue the transplant activity, transplant-related research and education.

Due to the uncertain COVID-19 situation in Europe, the face to face exam on ESOT had to be cancelled this year.
The oral online exam will be MAINTAINED and will take place on 28 August 2021 as previously announced.

Exam candidates will receive further and detailed information in a sufficient time prior to the exam.

The candidate must have a minimum of 2 years of training in transplantation medicine.

The exam for awarding the European Diploma in Transplant Medicine is organised by the European Board of Transplant Medicine of the Division of Transplantation of the UEMS in collaboration with the European Society of Organ Transplantation (ESOT).

Examination rules

There is a separate examination for each module. Each candidate is examined individually for every module for which he/she has applied. 
The Examination format is only oral. The duration of the exam for each module will be up to 60 minutes.

The exam will be examination on clinical topics that can include direct questions, discussion of cases, questions based on presentation of radiological and histological findings and discussion around the topics included in the syllabus of each module.

A pass/ fail mark will be decided for each module following discussion among the members of the examining board without the presence of the applicant. The decision of the examining board is final and is not subject to appeal. An unsuccessful candidate is entitled to one more chance to take the exam for each module that he/ she failed. The successful candidates are awarded the EBTMQ in Transplantation Medicine (with specification for which modules) and are provided with the relevant Diploma.

EBSQ Examination fees

The fees for the EBSQ certificate in Transplant medicine are divided as follows:
– Eligibility fee of 200 euros, non refundable if the candidate is not eligible, and
– Examination fee of 200 euros; the resit fee in case of failure is also of 200 euros.

The eligibility fee is to be paid when the candidate register for the certification.

The examination fees should be paid once the eligibility of the candidate has been confirmed, to finalise the registration of the candidate for the examination.

Honorary certificate

The EBTM is glad to announce that applications for the Honorary Diploma are now open until 15 September 2021. The assessment of applications will start on 15 April 2021.

All interested applicants are invited to provide the following documents to Susanne Beckebaum (susanne.beckebaum@googlemail.com) with the UEMS Surgery office in copy (office@uemssurg.org) and to proceed with the necessary application fee payment (details below):

Application documents:

1) A cover letter highlighting the achievements of your career
2) A complete updated and detailed CV (plus publications, professional memberships and professional accomplishments)
3) Letters from two peers of your choice who will explain in detail why they are in support of your application.
4) A photo
